  17. <p>     Some Bush Administration insiders are acidly recounting
  18. the irony of a blunt lecture John Su nunu delivered to former
  19. Education Secretary Lauro Cavazos last December. When the chief
  20. of staff summoned the ineffectual Cabinet member and asked him
  21. to resign, Sununu included a few sharp comments on Cavazos'
  22. travel habits. The Secretary usually took along his wife Peggy
  23. Ann, and is suspected of paying her fares with frequent-flyer
  24. credits he earned on official business--an apparent violation
  25. of federal rules requiring those bonuses to be turned over to
  26. the government. The couple also preferred to travel on TWA, even
  27. when other carriers offered more direct routes. Because Cavazos'
  28. son worked for the airline, the Secretary's wife was able to fly
  29. free. Sununu's heavy use of military flights earned him a slap
  30. on the wrist, but Ca vazos' machinations are the subject of a
  31. Justice Department criminal investigation.
